The Good:This book is a beautiful story about falling apart but finding love to hold on to even when you are so sure you don't deserve it.

They need each other and JR Rogue is the perfect one to tell this story. She writes from her heart and you can feel that when you read her work. It isn't just the good and happy things but the dark hurtful things that make this story come to life. Who doesn't love a good story that has a HEA but also shows that it takes work and dedication?! Your heart will bleed but it will do so in such a way that you can't stop reading until you get to the very last sentence.
The author does an amazing job of wrapping up the story. I can honestly say that I probably highlighted the entire epilogue. This is a book that I will gladly give 5 starts and proudly say that I own the ebook and the hard copy because the story was beautiful and I like having the book there to remind me that I can always go back when I need it.
The Bad:
The book ended. That is literally the only thing I did not like about this book.
The Recommendation:
Read this book. Now. You will not regret it. Not only is the writing phenomenal but who doesn't love supporting an indy author? This book is a 5 star read in my opinion and JR Rogue definitely earned each and every one of those stars.

I discovered J.R. Rogue through Tarryn Fisher's Instagram. To be named Tarryn's favorite poet is an admirable endorsement, and I was not disappointed in the slightest when I read my first Rogue poem.
I admit I was nervous to read this book. Would it be as wonderfully heartwrenching and soul shattering as her poetry that I sometimes feel was written specifically for me?
The answer is yes.

And Chace. He's something you have to experience on your own.
Although not my first choice, I have been expanding my reading horizons and reading genres that take me out of my comfort zone. When i discovered this contemporary romance by J. R. Rogue, the synopsis grabbed my interest, and Rogue's writing made me a fan. Her ability to weave a tale that keeps the reader entranced, with believable characters and a smoothly flowing storyline, make her an author I look forward to following.
Chase and Sera's story was sweet and thoughtful. Sera is a successful writer, and returns home to Missouri hoping to get past her writers block. Chase is Sera's brothers best friend and has been living in Sera's childhood home. Even though there is an age difference, they become fast friends and start to confide in one another. They are both still hurting from the selfish and hurtful acts from the adults in their lives. The people they loved broke them and shattered their childhood innocence. Together they are able overcome the heartbreak from their past, and find themselves through the love they find together.
I followed this author on Instagram a while back after seeing some of her work via other posts on Insta and Facebook (#sheeple). I enjoy poetry, but while there are some definite exceptions, it has never been something that completely speaks to me. I think it's because it is so highly personal, well the good poetry anyway. That is the best part of it, yeah? The way some poets can speak directly to your soul with their work. It's different for me than with books, in a way. It just feels different.
Anyway, I'm rambling for a reason. Books are my escape, while poems ground me in myself. I love this author's poems; I read them and I can feel my past and present in the words. By the author combining both books and poetry into one, it was just provided an entirely different experience for me. It felt so deeply personal in a way that some authors try to reach but just fall short. I loved every bit of the poetry that feed the finale of the book, and I loved every emotion that lead up to that finale.
My only downside is that I was so involved with Sera that the rest of the characters fell a little flat in comparison. That isn't necessarily a bad thing since she was the primary focus of the book, but in the end I only cared about her. Chace ended up being a minor part of a major story and I would have loved to have been able to love him as much as Sera apparently did.
Overall, though, this was an amazing debut novel. The poetry has always been there, but I am excited to see where this author is able to take her novels in the future.
First of all, I learned about J. R. Rogue's writing on Instagram. She shared her poetry to the world, and her words always caught me as real and raw. When I found out about her releasing a novel, I had to get my hands on it. At this point, I was so in love with her poetry that I couldn't wait to see the tale she would weave.
I was not disappointed. Many readers find this book to be a romance novel. It is... and it isn't. If you only want romance, do not be discouraged! You will get your romantical fix!
When I finished reading this story about Sera and Chace, I knew what I had just consumed was far more than the average love story. Far more than finding your muse. Far more than passionate desires. No. This book was a journey of a damaged woman seeking freedom from her own demons, and finding someone with his very own. This story was about accepting your fate, the cards of life that you have been dealt, and fighting past them.
I was expecting to read a solid romance novel. What I got was something far more satisfying and uplifting. Burning Muses is pure poetry.
If you find yourself unsure of whether or not to give this new author a shot, let me ease your worries right now... You will love this book. You will love the passion, the strength, and the love weaved into this beautiful tale.
